Type Diabetic

Diabetes is divided into two broad categories:

First is type 1 diabetes, which is caused by the body's failure to produce insulin, the hormone that "unlocks" the cells of the body, allowing glucose to enter and fuel them.

Type 1 diabetes usually appears early in a person’s life, often in childhood. It’s estimated that 5 to 10 percent of Americans with diabetes have type one.

Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, usually develops in people over 40. It occurs when the body starts becoming resistant to insulin. Over 90 percent of American diabetics have type 2.

Although there may be a genetic component to type 2 diabetes, diet and being overweight plays a much greater role, as does not getting enough exercise.
